STEP

STandard for the Exchange of Product model data is a standard to describing product data throughout the life cycle process. The STEP format can be used to exchange data between CAD, CAM, PDM, DMU and CAE. The STEP format is represented by different AP - Application protocols. The most common are AP 203 (Configuration controlled 3D designs of mechanical parts and assemblies) and AP 214 (Core data for automotive mechanical design processes).
